KEEP IN THE SUNLIGHT

Oktoberfest day 2

Carson and I woke up around 11, got ready and headed to the festival. The first thing we did upon arrival was get on this ride called the star flyer because it is really high and we wanted to take pictures. So as we were up on this ride, we had an amazing view of all of the festival. There were people EVERYWHERE and you could barely see the ground. We realized how huge the beer tents really were—not like tents at all, more like auditoriums. We could also see this beautiful church and the surrounding area of Munich. It was a great idea and we got some good pictures.

Then we wandered around for a little and saw this little stand with a huge blown up champagne bottle, which of course caught our attention. we thought it would be ridiculous if we got champagne at a BEER festival, so we did. It was pretty delicious.

Then we wandered around some more and saw that a lot of the tents were full so we went to this other beer stand and got a half liter of this random beer. It was quite delicious. We were standing there talking for a while when this blonde guy came up to me and was like “hey I saw you looking at me when I walked by, and I figured it was because I was speaking english—where are you from?” I was like “um I don’t remember that, but I am from America, yeah” and he ended up being from austin and his two friends from other places in the US, but I can’t remember where. So then we talked to them for a little bit and it turned out that they were just there for the weekend from America, which seemed a little nuts to me. So then we ditched them somehow and went to go find a beer tent. We struggled for a little bit because they were all full/you need to have reservations. Our solution? go get more food. Carson got chocolate covered strawberries and I held off knowing that it was MILK chocolate.

We then waited in line for this biergarten, and got in!! (with the help of these two randos who claimed we were a part of their table). We sat down and ordered a liter of beer. We sat there for a while and then both carson AND I noticed these hot guys at a table near us. They ended up looking over and yelling at us to come join them… so we did. we felt kind of bad about leaving the guys that helped us get in, but we told them we had to go see our friends. they didn’t seem to care too much. So we went to the table with the hot guys, and they were hilarious! The two hot ones ended up being australian, typical, and the rest were german. The australians were Mark and something and I can’t, at this point, remember anyone else’s name. So basically I just remember Mark, which is funny because he was the hottest.

They were wearing these absurd paper hats made out of menus and one of the aussie’s insisted that we wear one, so he had someone make us one. (carson later found one in her purse the next morning, ha).

We had great conversation and learned a lot about traveling and Germany and the language. We asked about Berlin and Munich at times other than Oktoberfest, and talked about the appeal of australian accents. We seriously had such a great time, drank more and more, and learned to say “Prost” instead of cheers. Carson decided to make use of this word a whole lot. We sang, we danced, we made friends, we stole a mug… it was amazing. Then we left and found more randoms that helped us get into a beer tent. We got in, ditched the randoms (we were thinking we were pretty good at this by now), and made our way to one of the tables and proceeded to get on top and dance our night away. We ended up dancing on literally EVERY single table in the tent, which is quite a lot considering the occupancy isĀ 6,220. this picture makes it seem calm, but when we were there on Saturday, everyone was standing on tables dancing and singing.

Then, the creepers that helped us get in somehow found us and tried to pull us off the tables to dance with them. So what did we do? We danced our way out of it, hopping from table to table and meeting new people as we did it. I then got a text message from a guy named Jay who was German that did an exchange student thing at my high school saying he was nearby. I told him which tent we were in and then he met us outside. We hung out with him for a while and did the oldest ride at Oktoberfest.. (he insisted, we rode it.. it sucked). We had another beer, said by to jay… somewhere during this time met some middle-aged men who we talked to for a while, got multiple glasses of free champagne from them and got even more drunk. We eventually made it back to the train station where we rebelliously (and illegally) smoked cigarettes while we waited for the train because we are just that cool. Made it home and passed out after gulping down the pricy water from the minibar. what a fun/rowdy day.
